Finding the right message for the moment

Acquisition. Conversion. Engagement. Email can do very different jobs depending on where someone is in their relationship with a brand. My work across Capital One focused on understanding that moment and adapting the value proposition, voice, personalization and message hierarchy to give people a reason to take the next action.

Acquisition: Speaking their language

Building a relationship with student cardholders

Reaching students started with speaking to the people helping them start their credit journey. For this acquisition email, I developed messaging for two parent audiences, balancing student-friendly rewards with security features that helped address concerns around building credit. The message shifted by audience and priority, while keeping the goal clear: give parents a reason to recommend the card.

Copy built to adapt

Same goal. Different reasons to believe. Body copy shifted by audience, while modular content emphasized either rewards or security based on the message priority.

Conversion: Turning intent into action

Turning existing interest into completed bookings

For Capital One Travel’s abandoned-cart campaign, the challenge was getting customers who were already interested to come back and complete their booking. I explored personalized, urgency-driven, aspirational, and nudge-based messaging to reconnect travelers with the trip they left behind. Destination-specific creative and modular rewards messaging made the reminder feel relevant while encouraging them to finish booking.

Engagement: Giving them a reason to come back

Retention of Venture X cardholders

Venture X customers already knew their card. The challenge was giving them reasons to keep engaging with it. Across seasonal newsletters, I turned a wide mix of travel benefits, exclusive experiences, rewards, and financial tools into cohesive communications using personalization, modular content, and message hierarchy to make each send feel relevant to the cardholder and the moment.

A reason to click

Turning a product update into a timely engagement moment

Capital One Dining was getting new features and capabilities, and the launch email turned this into a timely opportunity, using Valentine’s Day as a modular hook to give cardholders a reason to explore new features.

Different audiences. Different reasons to care.

From prospective student cardholders and their parents to premium travelers and dining customers, every audience brought a different level of familiarity and motivation. The work needed to adapt the value proposition, voice, and message hierarchy while giving people a reason to care and a clear reason to act.
